Ottawa, ON (January 9, 2012). The Ottawa School of Art Orleans Gallery presents Manimations, Chris Simonite’s animated deconstruction of male identity in the 21^st century.

Inspired by his experience of the feminist culture of the 1970s and 80s, Simonite literally puts himself in the spotlight as he explores a continuum of masculine stereotypes. Each of his four alter egos, a hyper-masculine country singer, a clueless everyman, an unwitting participant in the men’s movement and an older man facing his mid-life crisis, present themselves to the audience, but is everything as it appears?

Drawing on his extensive arts background, Simonite transforms watercolour images into animations that, ultimately, poke fun at the absurdities of a world where too many see life as a serious business.

Chris Simonite’s exhibition consists of a collection of video works, as well as a live performance at the opening reception.

You are invited to the opening reception on Sunday January 12, 2012 from 1 to 3pm at the Ottawa School of Art Orleans Gallery, located at the Shenkman Arts Centre. Works will be on display from: January 12 – February 17, 2012

The Ottawa School of Art, Orleans campus, offers an Arts Fundamentals certificate as well as a full range of community level art courses including drawing, painting, photography, new media, sculpture, printmaking, and a wide variety of specialized short courses and workshops. Children’s and Teens’ classes range from multimedia to cartooning, to sculpture and construction, drawing and painting.

The Ottawa School of Art is located at 245 Centrum Blvd., in Orleans. Admission to the gallery is always free.

Ottawa, ON (9 janvier 2012) La galerie de l’École d’art d’Ottawa présente Manimations de Chris Simonite, une déconstruction animée de l’identité masculine du 21^e siècle.

Inspiré par sa propre expérience de la culture féministe des années 70 et 80, Simonite se projette littéralement à l’avant-scène alors qu’il explore un continuum de stéréotypes masculins. Chacun de ses quatre alter ego, un chanteur country hypermasculin, un homme ordinaire désemparé, un participant involontaire au mouvement des hommes et un homme faisant face à la crise de la quarantaine, se présente à l’audience, mais est-ce que tout est réellement tel qu’il y paraît?

Puisant à même sa vaste expérience en arts, Simonite transforme ses images à l’aquarelle en vidéo d’animation qui, au final, se moquent des absurdités d’un monde que l’on prend souvent trop au sérieux.

L’exposition de Chris Simonite consiste en une série d’œuvres vidéo de même qu’une performance qui aura lieu lors du vernissage.

Nous vous invitons au vernissage dimanche le 15 janvier 2012 de 13 h à 15 h à la Galerie de l’École d’art d’Ottawa. Les oeuvres seront exposées du 12 janvier au 17 février 2012.

L’École d’art d’Ottawa, campus d’Orléans, offre un Certificat d’arts fondamentaux ainsi qu’un large éventail de cours d’art accessibles à tous, notamment des cours de dessin, peinture, photographie, nouveaux médias, sculpture et imprimerie. L’ÉAO propose également une grande variété de cours de courte durée et d’ateliers spécialisés. Les possibilités de cours pour les enfants et les adolescents sont nombreuses : multimédia et bande dessinée, sculpture et installation, dessin et peinture.

L’École d’art d’Ottawaest située au 245 boulevard Centrum à Orléans. L’entrée à la galerie de l’ÉAO est toujours gratuite.

Ottawa, ON (January 6, 2012) The Ottawa School of Art (OSA) presents Sébastien Gaudette / Théories sur papier. Through an impressive body of work, Sébastien Gaudette presents us with his fantastic world of dreams and imagination. After having trained in architectural design, Gaudette gave way to the structured discipline to which he was familiar with and let his imagination take full rein.

His meticulous works are presented much like the human mind presents thought and calculation, contrasting the abstract with reality, logic with absurdity, and rational with emotional, giving the works both richness and depth.

“Théories sur papier” (Theories presented on paper) clearly shows the tension between the left and right cerebral hemispheres by exploring the relationship between art and science using several aspects: mathematical theories, molecular science, biomechanics and human creation through his use of mixed-mediums, colours and contrasting styles.

Gaudette invites us into his imagination, one that is filled with mystery and contemplation, one that deals with social issues of today, and one that is fragmented and chaotic.

You are invited to the opening reception on Thursday January 12, 2012 from 5 to 8pm at the Ottawa School of Art Gallery. Works will be on display from: January 12 – February 15, 2012

Ottawa, ON (6 janvier 2012) L’École d’art d’Ottawa (ÉAO) présente Sébastien Gaudette / Théories sur papier. À travers un impressionnant corpus d’œuvres, Sébastien Gaudette nous dévoile son fascinant univers de rêve et d’imaginaire. Après avoir suivi une formation en dessin de bâtiments, Gaudette met de côté la discipline rigoureuse qui lui était familière pour laisser libre cours à son imagination.

Le fruit de son travail méticuleux se veut à l’image de l’esprit humain, tout en contrastes. L’abstrait et le réel, la logique et l’absurde, le rationnel et l’émotionnel se rencontrent dans ses œuvres, leur conférant richesse et profondeur.

« Théories sur papier » illustre la tension existant entre les hémisphères droit et gauche du cerveau en explorant la relation entre l’art et la science. Les théories mathématiques, les sciences moléculaires, la biomécanique et la création humaine se manifestent donc à travers l’utilisation de techniques mixtes, de couleurs et de styles contrastés.

Gaudette nous invite au cœur de son imaginaire, peuplé de références aux questions sociales actuelles, fragmenté, chaotique, rempli d’intériorité et de mystère.

Nous vous invitons au vernissage le jeudi 12 janvier 2012 de 17 h à 20 h à la galerie de l’École d’art d’Ottawa. Les oeuvres seront exposées du 12 janvier au 15 février 2012.

Ottawa, ON (November 8, 2011) The Ottawa School of Art (OSA) presents its fall fundraiser: Small Medium Large; A café themed evening with delicious café inspired food and drinks, with live entertainment including DJ Spade and M. Parker Jazz Quartet transforming our Main Gallery into a jazzy café. In spirit with the café theme, guests will be buying some amazing artwork at the event by ordering their art “to go” as all artwork is priced as Small, Medium, or Large! The event runs from 6pm to 9pm November 18, 2011 at 35 George St. and is quickly becoming a highly anticipated fundraiser for the art savvy citizens of Ottawa!

As a charitable organization the Ottawa School of Art looks to its donors for support and involvement, Small Medium Large is just the opportunity to do so while attending a great party! Some of the programs you will be supporting when donating to the Ottawa School of Art are:

- Outreach programming that provides free community-based art courses for over 702 children and youth through nine (9) different community partners;

- Quality art courses for over 2000 students in both the general interest and credit programs (Fine Arts Diploma and Portfolio Program) at affordable prices;

- Bursary assistance to students of all ages who wish to take a general interest course at the OSA but are facing financial constraints;

- Equipment purchases for studio classrooms for outdated and run down materials

Ottawa, ON (8 novembre 2011) L’École d’art d’Ottawa (ÉAO) présente son événement-bénéfice annuel d’automne Small Medium Large. Cette soirée thématique transformera notre galerie principale en un chaleureux café jazz. Au menu, performances musicales de DJ Spade et du quatuor M. Parker Jazz, de savoureuses entrées et boissonset bien sûr de nombreuses et magnifiques œuvres d’art! Les invités achèteront leurs œuvres « pour emporter », alors que les prix seront fixés en fonction des dimensions : petit, moyen ou large!

L’événement se déroulera de18 h à 21 h, le 18 novembre 2011 à l’ÉAO au 35, rue George et se veut déjà une collecte de fonds très attendue par les amateurs d’art d’Ottawa!

En tant qu’organisme de bienfaisance, l’École d’art d’Ottawa compte sur le soutien et la participation de ses donateurs pour faire de l’événement Small Medium Large une grande fête! Voici quelques-uns des programmes que vous soutiendrez grâce à vos dons pour l’École d’art d’Ottawa :

— Programmes communautaires offrant des cours d’arts visuels gratuits à plus de 702 enfants et jeunes provenant d’un milieu socio-économique difficile avec l’aide de neuf (9) différents partenaires communautaires;

— Cours d’art de qualité pour plus de 2000 étudiants inscrits au programme d’intérêt général et aux deux programmes de crédit (Diplôme en beaux-arts et programme de portfolio) à des prix abordables;

— Programme de bourses pour étudiants de tous âges qui désirent suivre des cours d’intérêt général à l’ÉAO, mais qui sont limités financièrement;

— L’achat d’équipement pour les salles de cours afin de remplacer les articles désuets or hors d’usage.
